I prescribe benzodiazepines (such as Klonopin, clonazepam, Ativan, lorazepam, Xanax, alprazolam, and Valium) sparingly, primarily for episodes of high anxiety or panic. I do not prescribe benzodiazepines for daily use due to the potential for long-term negative effects, including dependence, tolerance, withdrawal, falls, and impaired cognition. For patients currently using benzodiazepines daily, we will need to develop a safe tapering plan to discontinue the medication. I take a holistic approach, working with my clients to develop a comprehensive plan that addresses their anxiety using safer medications with fewer side effects.

During your initial 60-minute appointment, we’ll meet to embark on a thorough evaluation. Together, we'll delve into your current symptoms, lifestyle, social factors, personal history, and medical conditions. I firmly believe that a comprehensive assessment is essential to tailor treatment recommendations to your unique needs. Please anticipate that multiple visits may be needed to complete this evaluation and before prescribing medication. I also may recommend laboratory testing, as various biological factors could contribute to your symptoms.

Initially, we'll schedule frequent sessions, every 1-4 weeks, enabling me to gain deeper insights into you as a person and your overall health. This approach also allows me to conduct a thorough evaluation and craft a personalized, detailed care plan tailored to your needs. As your treatment advances and you start noticing positive changes, we'll adjust the frequency of sessions accordingly.

If you are paying via private pay or have a co-pay or co-insurance, payment is expected at the time of service.
At my practice, I strive to provide the best possible care for all of my patients, and part of that involves ensuring that our schedule runs smoothly. When appointments are canceled last minute, it not only disrupts my ability to provide timely care to other patients but also affects the resources I've allocated for your appointment. Therefore, to account for this and to help maintain the efficiency of the practice, I have a cancellation fee policy in place.
We ask that you provide notification of an appointment cancellation or reschedule at least 24 hours before your appointment. If you cancel, no show, or reschedule less than 24 hours before your appointment, you will be charged a $150 cancellation fee. I kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation in respecting the time and the valuable resources involved in scheduling appointments.

Psychotherapy and lifestyle coaching are seamlessly woven into your treatment journey at Present Psychiatry, sometimes in overt and sometimes in nuanced ways. Your well-being deserves a comprehensive approach that considers all aspects of your health and wellness. While I don't offer standalone weekly therapy sessions, many of my patients find value in working with therapists as part of their overall care plan. I prioritize collaboration with your other healthcare providers to ensure you receive the highest quality of integrated care.

A psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is a licensed professional and nurse who has completed advanced education and training in psychiatric and mental health care. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has completed medical school, residency, and fellowship training in psychiatry. PMHNPs and psychiatrists share similar roles in assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental health conditions using medications and psychotherapy. The evidence supports that nurse practitioners provide care that is comparable to that of physicians in many aspects, including quality of care, patient satisfaction, health outcomes, and cost-effectiveness.
A therapist (also known as a counselor, social worker, or psychologist) is a mental health professional who has completed a graduate education and provides talk therapy or psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, or groups. They are trained to assess and treat a wide range of mental health issues, emotional difficulties, and interpersonal problems using various therapeutic approaches but cannot prescribe medication.
When you choose to collaborate with a nurse practitioner, you're partnering with a healthcare provider trained within a holistic nursing model, emphasizing comprehensive patient care not just disease treatment. You can trust you'll receive care from a highly skilled, empathetic, and well-trained professional.
